It’s true many students miss out on thousands of dollars of financial aid every single year. According to an article in 2018 by savingforcollege.com more than 12 million students in 2015-16 did not complete the FAFSA and of them about 1.2 million would have qualified for the maximum Federal Pell Grant. Now I would not suggest that there are BILLIONS of unclaimed scholarship dollars because that in part is tough to justify but in my experience over the years working with enrolled college students I have seen first hand how student miss out on thousands of dollars each year in financial aid and scholarships. There are simple planning strategies to help you and your student capitalized on favorable financial aid and these strategies may be easier than you think.
